Notice of Casual Vacancies for Councillor
Public notice is hereby given that casual vacancies have occurred in the office of Councillor for the Parish of Woodford cum Membris following the resignations of:
Rebecca Hymers - Andrew Duffield - Peter Davies - Harry Minns
Rule 5(2) of The Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) (England and Wales) Rules 2006 now applies.
Can an election be called?
Ten electors for the parish may request the Proper Officer to hold an election to fill a vacancy. Each request must be made in writing within 14 days of the date of this notice. The 14-day period ends on 12 October 2026.
There is no set form of words — a letter headed along the lines of "We the undersigned, being electors of the Parish of Woodford cum Membris, call for an election to fill the vacancy arising from the resignation of [name]" is sufficient. A separate request is needed for each vacancy. A "Request for an Election" template is available from the Parish Clerk, and it helps if the ten signatures are accompanied by printed names and addresses.
What happens if no request is received?
Rule 5(5) applies: the Parish Council must, as soon as practicable after the 14-day period expires, co-opt a person to fill each vacancy.
