This walk should take around 90 minutes via Butterfly Lane or two hours via West Farndon. Start the walk in Lime Avenue, Eydon, near the Royal Oak.

  1. There is enough room for a car to be parked in Lime Avenue. Walk to the end of the road and turn right.
  2. A few yards down the road take the bridleway that leads straight on and later down the hill. The bridleway crosses the river at Jack’s Ford but before you get there go left by a gate into a field.
  3. Follow the footpath along the side of the field and down to the Cherwell because this path leads to the footbridge next to the ford.
  4. Cross the Cherwell, ignore the footpath signs and turn immediately right. Keep in the same field and follow the Cherwell up stream for a few yards, then continue in the same field with the hedge on your right.
  5. Soon you meet the Jurassic Way, signed near an enclosure with a fishing pond. Keep the barbed wire fence on your left and follow it right round making a ninety degree turn to the left. Where the barbed wire fence ends make a ninety degree turn right and follow the path with the hedge on your left. The path continues on on over a small tributary of the Cherwell, across two fields, and on to the Farndon Road.
  6. Turn right and walk towards West Farndon. After a quarter of a mile you will come to a bridleway on the right. This will lead you back to Eydon, via the new bridge over the Cherwell and up to Butterfly Lane. Alternatively continue along the road.
  7. Turn right (signposted Jurassic Way) down into West Farndon.
  8. Cross the stile at the end and follow the garden wall of the cottages around to the left where there is another stile which you cross and carry on over the field half right.
  9. Cross the Cherwell again by a footbridge and continue straight ahead until you come to a road. Continue up Barnetts Hill.
  10. Pass the end of Butterfly Lane (where the shorter route emerges) and follow the road on in to Eydon and back to Limes Avenue.
